    Welcome, Kevin Jennings!
    Dec, 09 2011
We are thrilled to welcome Kevin Jennings to our production team as an Executive Producer.

Kevin is a nationally known educator, writer, strategic planner and tireless fighter for individual rights, particularly those of LGBT youth. In 1988, as a teacher in Massachusetts, he became the faculty advisor to the nation’s first gay-straight alliance. When other educators began seeking his help in establishing similar groups in their schools, he founded GLSEN, the Gay Lesbian Straight Education Network. Under his leadership, GLSEN developed into the leading national education organization focused on ensuring safe schools for all students without regard to sexual orientation or gender identity.

From 2009 through 2011, Kevin served as Assistant Deputy Secretary of the U.S. Department of Education, heading the Office of Safe and Drug-Free Schools. He is now CEO of Be the Change, a non-profit organization that creates national issue-based campaigns focused on pressing problems in American society.

Along the way, in addition to his degree from Harvard University, Kevin picked up an MA in Education from Columbia University and an MBA from NYU’s Stern School of Business.

And now, in his spare time (!) he will be helping to bring the story of The Lavender Scare to the screen. He will be involved in all aspects of the project – from helping shape editorial content to overseeing production and distribution. One of his key objectives will be to build a social action campaign utilizing the emotional power of this incredible story as a tool for effective social change for the LGBT community.
